During the 1971 coup attempt in Morocco, Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez was present at the Skhirat palace when rebels attacked a birthday party for King Hassan II. According to historical accounts, Hafez hid in a bathroom for several hours as gunfire erupted, fearing for his life.
The coup, led by General Medbouh and Colonel Ababou, resulted in the deaths of over 100 people, including guests and military personnel. Hafez, who was performing at the event, survived unharmed and later recounted the harrowing experience.
This incident remains a notable part of Hafez's biography, highlighting the chaos of the failed coup. The king survived by hiding in a different location, and the rebellion was eventually suppressed.
