With one month to go until the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off, Bosnia-Herzegovina has become the first nation to announce its final 23-man squad. The team, which qualified via the playoffs, will face Group H opponents including Spain and Mexico.
According to FIFA regulations, all 32 participating nations must submit their final squad lists by June 1, 2026. However, preliminary or extended squads (often up to 35 players) are due to FIFA by May 18, 2026. These extended lists allow teams to prepare for friendlies and finalize selections.
Bosnia's early announcement, made on May 10, includes key players such as Edin Džeko and Miralem Pjanić, both of whom are expected to feature in what could be their last World Cup. The team will play warm-up matches against Colombia and Japan before the tournament.
Other nations, including defending champions Argentina and hosts USA, Canada, and Mexico, are expected to release their preliminary squads in the coming days. The World Cup will be held across 16 cities in North America from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
