French customs officers made a record-breaking drug seizure on the A7 motorway on March 23, 2026. At the Vienne toll booth in the Isère department, they discovered 1.2 tonnes of cocaine concealed within bags of potting soil inside a truck.
The operation, conducted by the Lyon branch of the French Customs National Intelligence and Investigations Directorate (DNRED), led to the arrest of the truck driver. The drugs were packaged in 998 individual bricks.
Authorities estimate the street value of the seizure at a minimum of 75 million euros. The investigation is ongoing to identify the broader trafficking network behind this shipment.
