Vietnam held an election for its National Assembly, the country's highest legislative body, on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Voters across the nation cast ballots to select members of the 500-seat assembly.

According to official information from the National Election Council, 868 candidates were approved to run for the 500 seats. Of these, 807 candidates, or approximately 93%, are members of the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam or are recommended by the Vietnam Fatherland Front, an umbrella organization led by the party.

The remaining candidates are independents or from minor, state-sanctioned organizations. The National Assembly, while constitutionally the supreme state power, largely functions to endorse policies and laws formulated by the Communist Party's leadership.

The election process is managed by state authorities, and all candidates are vetted for political reliability. Official results are expected to be announced in the coming days following the vote count.
