Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president T. R. Paarivendhar, popularly known as Vijay, arrived at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in Chennai on March 15, 2026, for questioning. The summons is part of the ongoing CBI investigation into the deadly stampede that occurred during a TVK event in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on October 25, 2024.

The stampede, which took place at a public meeting where free groceries were being distributed, resulted in the deaths of four people and left several others injured. The CBI took over the probe based on a directive from the Madras High Court, which was hearing petitions alleging negligence by the event organizers.

Vijay's appearance before the federal agency marks a significant development in the case. The CBI is examining whether there were lapses in crowd management and safety protocols at the event. The TVK party has previously stated that it cooperated with initial police investigations.

This questioning follows the CBI's earlier actions in the case, including searches conducted at various locations. The investigation continues as authorities seek to determine responsibility for the tragic incident.
