Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has temporarily suspended the Linda Mwananchi website following malicious cyber attacks and technical issues reported shortly after its launch on March 13, 2026. The website went live on Friday and attracted thousands of sign-ups, with more than 5,500 Kenyans registering within hours.
Sifuna revealed that the platform experienced thousands of malicious attacks while also receiving hundreds of positive feedback suggestions, prompting the decision to take the site offline to address issues and incorporate user ideas. In a statement shared through his official X account on Saturday, March 14, the ODM secretary general cited the surge in cyber attacks and need for platform improvements.
Those seeking to join the initiative are required to complete a registration process that includes confirming voter registration status and paying a small Ksh10 fee, which organizers say helps verify genuine supporters and filter out fake accounts. The project faced controversy after online users raised concerns about data privacy, with screenshots circulating showing personal details of users who had signed up.
The Linda Mwananchi initiative has emerged as a political movement associated with ODM leaders who have taken a firm stance against President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 general election, with Sifuna joined by leaders including Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi. The senator asked supporters to remain patient as the technical team works on the platform, expressing optimism that it will soon resume operations.
