A major winter storm is expected to impact Minnesota, with heavy snowfall forecast to begin late Saturday, March 14, and continue through Sunday, March 15, 2026. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings and Watches for much of the state, including the Twin Cities metro area.

Forecast models indicate the potential for significant snow accumulations, with the highest totals likely in central and southern Minnesota. Some areas, particularly south of a line from Alexandria to the Twin Cities, could see more than 12 inches (30 cm) of snow by the end of the event. The storm system is also expected to bring strong winds, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility.

In anticipation of the severe weather, multiple cities and counties across Minnesota have declared snow emergencies. Officials are urging residents to prepare by stocking emergency supplies, planning for travel disruptions, and moving vehicles off streets to facilitate plowing operations. The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises against unnecessary travel once conditions deteriorate.
