The Catholic Bishops of Uganda, under the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC), have begun their pilgrimage to Rome for the traditional "ad Limina Apostolorum" visit. This periodic visit, required of all bishops, involves reporting on the state of their dioceses to the Pope and meeting with officials of the Roman Curia.
According to the Vatican's official news portal, Vatican News, the bishops' visit commenced in March 2026. The schedule includes meetings with Pope Francis and various dicasteries, focusing on the pastoral life and challenges of the Church in Uganda.
The "ad Limina" visit is a significant ecclesiastical event that reinforces the bond between local churches and the Holy See. The Ugandan delegation's agenda typically covers topics such as evangelization, education, social justice, and inter-religious dialogue within the country.
This pilgrimage follows the canonical requirement for bishops to make the visit every five years. The previous Ugandan bishops' "ad Limina" visit took place in 2019, making the 2026 visit the subsequent scheduled pilgrimage.
