The leader of an Iranian Kurdish opposition group has stated his forces are prepared to conduct ground operations against Iran's security forces, but such action is contingent on receiving international support. The comments were made in an interview with Newsweek.

The individual is Mustafa Hijri, the Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI). The KDPI is a long-standing opposition group based in the Kurdish region of Iraq, advocating for greater rights for Iran's Kurdish minority.

In the interview, Hijri framed the potential for military action as a defensive measure against what he described as ongoing attacks by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on his group's bases in Iraq. He did not specify a timeline for any operations.

Analysts note that while Kurdish opposition groups have historically clashed with Iranian forces, a significant escalation would depend heavily on complex regional dynamics and the stance of foreign powers, including the United States. The Iranian government has long accused such groups of terrorism and being proxies for external actors.
