A heli-skier has died following an avalanche in the backcountry near Golden, British Columbia. The incident occurred on Saturday, March 15, 2026, in the Gorman Lake area, approximately 30 kilometres southeast of the town.
The BC Coroners Service has confirmed it is investigating the death. Initial reports indicate the individual was part of a guided heli-skiing group when the avalanche was triggered. The guide and other members of the party were not injured.
Avalanche Canada reported the slide was a size 2.5 avalanche on a northeast-facing slope at treeline. The regional avalanche danger for the area was rated as 'Considerable' at the alpine and treeline levels at the time of the incident.
Parks Canada's visitor safety team and local search and rescue groups assisted in the response. The investigation by the coroner and Avalanche Canada is ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the fatal slide.
