Former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo has called for the immediate suspension or interdiction of public officials implicated in financial irregularities cited in the latest report from the Ghana Audit Service. He made the call during a public forum on accountability, stressing that administrative action must precede lengthy criminal prosecutions to deter malfeasance.

The 2024 Auditor-General's Report, presented to Parliament in December 2025, uncovered significant financial infractions across multiple ministries, departments, and agencies. The report detailed instances of unapproved expenditures, contract irregularities, and cash irregularities amounting to millions of Ghanaian cedis.

Domelevo, who served as Auditor-General from 2016 to 2021, argued that allowing implicated officials to remain in post during investigations compromises the process and erodes public trust. He cited provisions in the Public Financial Management Act that empower sector ministers and governing boards to take such disciplinary steps.

Civil society organizations, including the Ghana Integrity Initiative, have echoed Domelevo's demands, urging the government to enforce the audit recommendations. The Audit Service has previously stated that its reports are forwarded to Parliament and relevant institutions for action, but implementation has often been slow.
