Drunk Driver Kills Pedestrian in Odhav, Ahmedabad

A 69-year-old pedestrian was killed in the Odhav area of Ahmedabad on the night of March 15, 2026, after being struck by a drunk driver operating a goods-carrying auto-rickshaw. The Ahmedabad police confirmed the incident occurred near the Odhav crossroads.

According to police reports, the victim, identified as 69-year-old Babubhai Thakor, was walking when the rickshaw, loaded with goods, hit him. The driver, 24-year-old Ravi Parmar, was apprehended at the scene. A breathalyzer test confirmed he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Parmar has been charged under sections of the Indian Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and under the Motor Vehicles Act. The Odhav police are investigating the exact circumstances leading to the fatal collision.

The incident has renewed calls from local residents and authorities for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, particularly concerning drunk driving and the overloading of commercial vehicles in residential areas.
