Education authorities in Bengaluru have launched an inquiry into a private school following allegations that a six-year-old student was forced to stand in the sun as punishment for arriving late. The incident, which reportedly occurred in early March 2026, was brought to light by the child's parents.
According to a complaint filed with the Department of Public Instruction, the Class 1 student was made to stand outside the school building for an extended period during peak afternoon heat for being two minutes late. The parents alleged the punishment lasted nearly two hours, causing the child distress.
The school management has not issued a detailed public statement on the specific allegations. However, the Block Education Officer (BEO) of the region confirmed an investigation is underway to verify the facts and determine appropriate action.
Child rights activists have condemned the alleged punishment, citing guidelines against corporal punishment and humiliating treatment in schools. The incident has sparked renewed debate on disciplinary practices in Indian educational institutions.
