A final-year student at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani, Ghana, has died in a suspected suicide. The student has been identified as Godfred Akomaning, a Level 400 Petroleum Engineering student.
According to reports from local media, the incident occurred on or around March 21, 2026. The student was found deceased in his off-campus residence in the Bantama suburb of Sunyani.
The University of Energy and Natural Resources has confirmed the tragic event. In a statement, the university's management expressed its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and stated that counseling services are being made available to affected students and staff.
Local police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. While the cause is suspected to be suicide, authorities have not released an official determination pending the completion of their inquiries.
