The commercialization of natural gas from Morocco's Tendrara field has been delayed, with first gas now expected in 2027, according to recent statements from the project's operator, Sound Energy. The company had previously targeted a start date in 2026.
The Tendrara field, located in eastern Morocco, is a key domestic energy project for the kingdom. Sound Energy holds a 47.5% interest in the project, with Morocco's state-owned ONHYM and Saudi Arabia's Schlumberger holding the remaining stakes.
The development plan involves a phased approach, starting with a micro-LNG facility to supply the local market. A second phase envisions a pipeline connection to the national gas grid. The delays are attributed to ongoing negotiations for gas sales agreements and finalizing project financing.
Once operational, the field is expected to help reduce Morocco's heavy reliance on energy imports. The project's progress is closely watched as part of the country's broader energy strategy.
