Gardaí have charged a 19-year-old man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident in County Limerick that resulted in the death of 23-year-old nurse Áine O'Reilly. The collision occurred on the R506 at Ballysimon Road on the morning of February 20, 2026.
The teenager was arrested in the Castleconnell area on Thursday, March 19, 2026. He was detained at a Garda station in Limerick under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, before being formally charged.
Áine O'Reilly, a nurse at University Hospital Limerick, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. Gardaí had appealed for information and dashcam footage from road users in the area at the time of the incident.
The charged male appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court on Friday, March 20, 2026. The case is ongoing.
