Senegal's new kit shows one star, not two, sparking debate

Senegal's new national team kit features only one star for its 2021 AFCON win, omitting the 2025 title, a decision attributed to kit production cycles.

The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) has unveiled a new home kit for the national team, the Lions of Teranga. The jersey prominently features a single star above the crest, representing the team's victory at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This has sparked confusion among fans, as Senegal also won the subsequent tournament, AFCON 2025, which was held in Morocco.

According to official statements from the FSF and kit manufacturer PUMA, the design and production cycle for the new kit began long before the conclusion of AFCON 2025 in early 2025. The final design, including the single star, was locked in and sent for manufacturing well in advance of the tournament's final, making it logistically impossible to update the star count on this specific kit release.

Federation officials have clarified that the next iteration of the Senegal kit will correctly display two stars to honor both the 2021 and 2025 continental titles. The current release is part of a standard, pre-planned commercial cycle common in sportswear. The team will wear this kit in upcoming matches, with the second star to be added for future tournaments and kit launches.
