Senegal's Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has publicly criticized Morocco's judicial system following the sentencing of 18 Senegalese football fans. The supporters were arrested after the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Rabat on February 9, 2025, where Morocco defeated Senegal 2-0.

According to reports from Moroccan state media, the fans were convicted on charges including violence against public officials, damage to public property, and participation in an unauthorized demonstration. The sentences, handed down by a court in Sale, ranged from six months to one year in prison.

Prime Minister Sonko's condemnation follows a similar statement from the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), which expressed "deep concern" over the verdicts. The FSF had called for the release of the supporters, describing them as having traveled to support their national team.

The incident has caused diplomatic tension between the two nations. Moroccan authorities maintain that the judicial process was conducted fairly and in accordance with the law, while Senegalese officials continue to call for clemency and the repatriation of their citizens.
