The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has issued a clarification regarding the design of the new national team jersey, which features a single star above the crest. The federation confirmed to the press that the star solely represents Senegal's victory at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This explanation comes after public speculation and some confusion among fans, who noted the team had previously worn jerseys with two stars. The FSF stated that the second star seen in the past was not officially sanctioned and did not correspond to a second continental title.
The federation emphasized that the current single-star design is the only official one, accurately reflecting the nation's single AFCON triumph secured in Cameroon. The clarification aims to align the kit's symbolism with the team's actual recorded achievements.
The new jersey, produced by PUMA, was unveiled earlier this month as part of the preparations for upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The FSF maintains that the design correctly honors the historic win delivered by the team led by coach Aliou Cissé.
