The Senegalese Olympic Committee has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) following the disqualification of its men's 4x100m relay team from the 2024 Paris Olympics. The team, initially awarded the gold medal, was stripped of the title after the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) confirmed a doping violation by one of its runners.
The violation involved a prohibited substance detected in a sample provided by a member of the relay squad. As a result, World Athletics officially nullified the team's results from the final, which was held on August 9, 2024. The gold medal has been reallocated to the Italian team, with Canada moving to silver and Great Britain to bronze.
In its appeal to CAS, the Senegalese committee is challenging the decision and the procedural aspects of the anti-doping case. The case represents a significant setback for Senegalese athletics, which celebrated its first-ever Olympic gold medal in the event. A hearing date before the CAS panel has not yet been publicly scheduled.
