Former All Blacks captain Richie McCaw and his wife Gemma have sold their Christchurch home at auction. The property, located in the suburb of Fendalton, was the final lot called at a Bayleys auction event on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

The auction opened with a vendor bid of $3 million. Two registered buyers then competed, with the price rising in increments of $50,000 and $100,000. The final sale price remains undisclosed, and the property was sold unconditionally.

A crowd of approximately 30 people witnessed the bidding. The contemporary home, which the McCaws built and had listed for sale, features four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and extensive indoor-outdoor living spaces.

The sale concludes the McCaws' ownership of the property as they have reportedly been living in Wanaka. The identity of the successful purchaser has not been released.
