Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) has received a $10 million donation from the Maclab Foundation to establish the Maclab Institute for Financial Literacy. The gift, announced on March 25, 2026, is one of the largest in the polytechnic's history.
The institute will be dedicated to advancing financial literacy education and research. Its programs will be designed to serve RDP students, the broader central Alberta community, and Indigenous communities.
"This transformative gift will allow us to create a centre of excellence in financial literacy," said RDP President Stuart Cullum. The funding will support the development of new curriculum, community workshops, and applied research initiatives focused on practical money management skills.
The Maclab Foundation, established by the late Donald (Bud) and Maclyn (Mac) McCaig, has a long history of supporting post-secondary education and community projects in Alberta.
