One dead, one hospitalised after Choa Chu Kang HDB fire

A 60-year-old man died and a 56-year-old woman was hospitalised after a fire broke out in a Choa Chu Kang flat in the early hours of March 19.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to a fire at a Housing & Development Board (HDB) flat on Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 in the early hours of Thursday, March 19, 2026. According to SCDF, they were alerted to the incident at about 3:05 a.m.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which was confined to the contents of a bedroom. SCDF paramedics found two people unconscious within the unit. A 60-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic. A 56-year-old woman was conveyed conscious to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire originated from a power-assisted bicycle (PAB) mobility device that was charging in the bedroom. SCDF reiterated its public advisory on the safe charging of personal mobility devices and power-assisted bicycles.
