A major program to develop Morocco's electricity transmission grid and expand rural electrification, supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB), has achieved significant results. The program, implemented by Morocco's National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), has focused on strengthening high-voltage transmission infrastructure and connecting remote communities.

According to AfDB reports, the program has financed the construction of over 1,700 kilometers of high-voltage power lines and the installation of numerous transformer stations. This infrastructure development is crucial for integrating renewable energy sources and improving the reliability of the national grid.

The rural electrification component has been a key success. Independent verification from sources like the World Bank indicates that Morocco's national rural electrification rate reached nearly 100% in recent years, a dramatic increase from 18% in 1995. This achievement is frequently cited as a model for other African nations.

The AfDB has consistently highlighted this program as a successful partnership, emphasizing its contribution to Morocco's energy security and socio-economic development. The improvements in grid capacity also support the country's ambitious goals for expanding renewable energy generation.
