The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has confirmed the appointment of Rachid Ouahbi as the new head coach of the national team, succeeding Walid Regragui. The change in leadership follows the conclusion of Regragui's contract after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Regragui, who led Morocco to a historic fourth-place finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, saw his tenure end after the team's runner-up finish in the 2025 AFCON, which they hosted. The final, played in Casablanca, saw Morocco lose 1-0 to Senegal after extra time.
Rachid Ouahbi, a former assistant coach under Regragui, steps into the top role. The FRMF stated that Ouahbi's familiarity with the squad and its systems was a key factor in the decision. His immediate task will be to prepare the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.
The federation thanked Walid Regragui for his service, highlighting the historic World Cup achievement and the development of the national team during his leadership. No specific reasons for the non-renewal of his contract were disclosed in the official announcement.
