A solicitor representing a couple from County Meath has stated that his clients did not threaten workers who arrived to demolish their former home, which was built without planning permission. The property, located in the townland of Kilbride, was the subject of a long-running enforcement case by Meath County Council.
The council obtained a court order for the demolition of the house, which was constructed on a site not zoned for residential development. Workers, accompanied by council officials and gardaí, arrived at the property in early March 2026 to carry out the demolition order.
In comments reported by the Irish Independent, the couple's solicitor, John Magee, refuted allegations that his clients had made threats. "My clients did not threaten anybody," Magee stated, adding that the couple had been cooperative throughout the legal process and had vacated the property well before the demolition date.
The case highlights ongoing tensions in Ireland over planning enforcement and one-off rural housing. Meath County Council confirmed the demolition was carried out in compliance with the court order.
