A man has been sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison for a violent home invasion and arson in Sydney's southwest. The incident occurred in January 2024 at a home in Revesby.
According to court reports, the offender, armed with a knife and a jerry can of petrol, broke into the home. He doused a 53-year-old woman in petrol and set her alight, causing severe burns to over 30% of her body. The woman survived the attack after being hospitalized in a critical condition.
The New South Wales District Court heard the attack was motivated by a dispute over drug money. The judge described the crime as a "terrifying" act of violence. With a non-parole period of eight years and six months, the offender will be eligible for release in 2032.
