Inter Milan will be without their captain and top scorer Lautaro Martinez for their Serie A match against Fiorentina this weekend. Manager Simone Inzaghi confirmed the striker's absence due to a thigh injury during his pre-match press conference.
Martinez sustained the injury during Inter's Champions League round of 16 second-leg victory over Atlético Madrid on March 18. Scans subsequently revealed a strain in his left thigh, ruling him out of immediate action.
"He will not be available for the match against Fiorentina," Inzaghi stated, adding that the club's medical staff would monitor the Argentine's recovery day by day. The injury casts doubt on his availability for the upcoming international break.
Martinez's absence is a significant blow for Inter, who lead Serie A. He is the league's leading scorer this season. The match against Fiorentina is scheduled for March 22 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
