Government party leaders have agreed to proposals that will see excise duty on diesel cut by 20 cent and by 15 cent on petrol. The reductions are set to apply until the end of May.
The move is a response to sustained high prices at the pumps and aims to provide cost-of-living relief for consumers and businesses. The cuts are expected to be implemented swiftly following the political agreement.
This temporary measure follows similar interventions in recent years to mitigate the impact of volatile global energy prices on the domestic market. The government has stated the policy is designed to be targeted and time-limited.
