Mehdi Tazi, a prominent Moroccan businessman and current Vice-President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), has emerged as the leading candidate to become the organization's next president. The election is scheduled for April 2026, following the end of Chakib Alj's term.

Tazi, who is the CEO of the Tazi Group and heads the CGEM's Federation of Textile and Clothing Industries, is widely seen as a consensus candidate. His candidacy is reportedly backed by several influential figures within the business community, positioning him as a strong contender to lead the influential employers' body.

The CGEM presidency is a key role in shaping Morocco's economic policy and representing the private sector. The election process involves voting by the confederation's member federations and regional councils.

Other potential candidates may yet declare their intention to run, but as of March 2026, Tazi is viewed as the frontrunner. The final outcome will be determined by the vote of the CGEM's General Assembly.
