Manchester United manager Michael Carrick expressed fury over refereeing decisions after his team drew 2-2 with AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, April 13, 2024. United led twice through Bruno Fernandes but were pegged back each time by Dominic Solanke and Justin Kluivert.

The major controversy occurred in the 65th minute when United defender Harry Maguire was shown a straight red card for a foul on Bournemouth's Enes Ünal in the penalty area. The decision, confirmed by VAR, resulted in a penalty which Solanke converted for his second goal of the match.

Post-match, Carrick labeled the penalty award and sending-off as "astonishing" and "mental," arguing the contact was minimal. He also criticized an earlier decision not to award United a penalty for a potential handball. The draw left Manchester United in seventh place in the Premier League table, further damaging their hopes for Champions League qualification.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) has not commented on the specific incidents. The result continues a difficult season for United, who have faced consistent criticism over their defensive performances.
