A national commission has concluded that Canada's sport system is "broken" and requires a fundamental transformation. The Future of Sport in Canada Commission released its final report on March 24, 2026, stating the current model is unsustainable and fails to ensure a safe, inclusive, and accountable environment for all participants.

The report, titled "Reclaiming the Promise of Sport in Canada," follows extensive consultations and highlights systemic issues including abuse, discrimination, and a lack of accountability. It calls for the establishment of an independent public institution to oversee sport, replacing the current governance structure.

Commission Chair Dr. Guylaine Demers emphasized the need for urgent action, stating the system must be rebuilt with athlete welfare and human rights at its core. The report presents over 70 recommendations aimed at creating a safer, more equitable, and transparent sport environment nationwide.
