The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially stripped Senegal of its hosting rights for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The decision, announced on March 17, 2026, follows an inspection report citing significant delays in stadium construction and infrastructure preparations.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe stated that the organization could not risk another tournament with unprepared hosts, referencing past issues with Cameroon in 2019. The CAF Executive Committee will now seek a new host nation for the tournament, with Morocco and Algeria considered potential replacements.
Senegalese football officials have expressed disappointment, arguing they were on track to meet deadlines. The decision marks a major setback for Senegalese football, which won the 2021 AFCON title.
