The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a formal statement refuting widespread media reports that Morocco has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The clarification comes after speculation surged online and in various news outlets.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe emphasized that the host nation for the 2025 tournament has not yet been decided. The executive committee is still evaluating bids and a final announcement will be made in due course. The original host, Guinea, was stripped of the rights in 2022 due to infrastructure concerns.

Morocco, alongside Algeria and a joint bid from Nigeria and Benin, had been considered a frontrunner. However, the CAF's denial confirms the process remains open. The governing body stated it is committed to a transparent selection process to ensure the tournament's success.

The next edition of AFCON is scheduled to be held in 2025, though an exact date is pending the host announcement. The denial from CAF puts to rest a wave of premature celebration and speculation that had circulated in recent days.
