The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has moved to quash a false news report circulating online which claimed Senegal had been stripped of its 2021 Africa Cup of Nations title. A CAF spokesperson confirmed to fact-checking agencies that no such ruling has been made by its Appeal Board or any other judicial body, and the original tournament result stands.

Senegal won its first-ever AFCON title on February 6, 2022, defeating Egypt 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The trophy was presented to captain Kalidou Koulibaly, and the victory remains a historic achievement for the Senegalese national team.

The false report, which originated from a fabricated news website, incorrectly stated that Morocco had been crowned champions instead. CAF has urged the public and media to rely only on official communications from its channels for accurate information regarding competition results and disciplinary matters.
