The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a statement refuting widespread online reports that it has stripped Senegal of hosting rights for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The claims, which suggested Morocco would take over as host, have been circulating on social media and some news blogs.

In a communication dated March 23, 2026, CAF's Director of Communications stated there is "no truth" to the rumors and that the organization has not taken any decision to change the host country. The statement emphasized that preparations for the tournament in Senegal are ongoing as planned.

The false reports appear to have originated from a fabricated document and were amplified by unverified sources. CAF has urged the public and media to rely only on official channels for information regarding its competitions.

Senegal was officially awarded the hosting rights for the 2025 AFCON in 2022. The next edition of the tournament is scheduled to be held in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in 2027.
