The 40th Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) in Switzerland, running from March 21 to March 30, 2026, features a strong selection of socially engaged cinema. Among the films in the International Competition is "Honeymoon," the debut feature from Ukrainian filmmaker Zhanna Ozirna.
"Honeymoon" tells the story of a young couple whose life together begins on the first day of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The film explores their attempts to build intimacy and a future while navigating the pervasive reality of war, blending elements of drama, comedy, and documentary.
Zhanna Ozirna, born in 1994 in Kyiv, is a director and screenwriter. Her previous short film, "The Christmas Gift," was presented at the 2023 FIFF. "Honeymoon" was produced with support from the Ukrainian State Film Agency and the Dovzhenko Centre.
The FIFF's 40th edition program emphasizes films from the Global South and Eastern Europe, focusing on political and social themes. The festival's grand prize, the Regard d'Or, carries a award of 30,000 Swiss Francs.
