Zedge, Inc., the company behind the popular Zedge app, announced on June 17, 2026, that its Tapedeck platform has entered into an agreement with the estate of the late soul legend Betty Wright to include her music catalog. The deal brings Wright's classic hits to Tapedeck's growing library of licensed music for user-generated content.
Betty Wright, known for her 1970s soul hits like "Clean Up Woman" and "Tonight Is the Night," passed away in 2020 at the age of 66. Her estate has been actively managing her legacy, and this partnership with Zedge's Tapedeck allows her music to be used in short-form video creations on the platform.
Tapedeck, launched by Zedge in 2024, is a mobile app that enables users to create and share short videos with licensed music. The addition of Betty Wright's catalog expands its offerings, particularly in the soul and R&B genres. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Zedge CEO Jonathan Reich stated, "Betty Wright's music is timeless, and we are honored to work with her estate to bring her songs to a new generation of creators." The deal reflects a broader trend of music licensing for user-generated content platforms.
