ZANZIBAR — President Hussein Mwinyi has ordered the acceleration of digital reforms in Zanzibar's government systems, warning against inefficiencies that could undermine service delivery. The directive was issued during a meeting with senior officials on May 6, 2026, according to the Zanzibar State House.
Dr. Mwinyi emphasized the need for swift implementation of e-government platforms to enhance transparency and efficiency. He specifically called for faster rollout of digital services in key sectors such as health, education, and public administration.
The president also cautioned against bureaucratic delays and corruption, stating that any official found obstructing the digital transformation process would face consequences. The reforms are part of Zanzibar's broader strategy to transition to a digital economy by 2030.
According to the Zanzibar Ministry of Information, the government has already digitized several services, including business registration and tax payments. The new push aims to expand these services to all government departments within the next two years.
