World Vision, in partnership with the Wa East District Assembly, has launched a Children's Parliament aimed at combating child labour in the region. The initiative, announced in June 2026, seeks to empower children to advocate for their rights and report cases of exploitation.
The parliament will consist of elected child representatives from various communities within the district. These young parliamentarians will receive training on child rights, leadership, and advocacy to effectively address issues such as child labour and child marriage.
According to World Vision, the program is part of a broader effort to reduce child labour in Ghana's cocoa-growing regions, where the practice remains prevalent. The organization has been working with local authorities to implement community-based solutions.
