The World Bank's Board of Executive Directors has approved $46 million in financing for Senegal to strengthen the resilience of its food systems. The funding, approved on March 27, 2026, is provided through the International Development Association (IDA).
The project aims to increase the productivity and climate resilience of key food value chains, including rice, onions, and maize. It will support smallholder farmers and small and medium-sized agribusinesses, with a focus on improving access to markets, finance, and climate-smart technologies.
This initiative is designed to help Senegal mitigate the impacts of climate change and economic shocks on food security. The World Bank stated the program will directly benefit over 50,000 people, primarily farmers and entrepreneurs in the regions of Saint-Louis, Matam, and SΓ©dhiou.
