LUDHIANA β A woman who was critically injured in an auto-rickshaw crash in Ludhiana has died four days later, police said. The driver of the vehicle, who was allegedly speeding, now faces criminal charges.
The accident occurred on April 23, 2026, when the auto-rickshaw, driven by the accused, collided with a stationary truck on the G.T. Road near the Gill Road intersection. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Manjit Kaur, a resident of Haibowal, was rushed to a local hospital with severe head injuries. She succumbed to her injuries on April 27, 2026.
Police have registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code against the driver, identified as Gurpreet Singh. He was arrested shortly after the incident and is currently in judicial custody.
βThe driver was speeding and lost control of the vehicle, leading to the collision,β said investigating officer ASI Balwinder Singh. βWe have gathered evidence, including witness statements and CCTV footage from the area.β
The auto-rickshaw was carrying three other passengers at the time of the crash, who sustained minor injuries and were discharged after treatment. The case is under further investigation.
