Microsoft has released an optional update for Windows 11, designated KB5041587, which focuses on improving the launch speed of File Explorer. The update is part of the July 2024 preview update cycle and is available for Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 22H2.
According to Microsoft's release notes, the update addresses a known issue where File Explorer takes longer than expected to open after a system restart. The fix targets performance improvements in the initial loading of the application.
In addition to the File Explorer speed boost, KB5041587 includes several other fixes, such as resolving a problem where the Windows Share button does not appear in certain apps and addressing a memory leak in the Windows Kernel. The update is optional and can be downloaded via Windows Update under 'Optional updates'.
