The World Health Organization (WHO) released updated recommendations on Saturday regarding treatments and vaccine candidates for the ongoing Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The guidance aims to help health authorities contain the spread of the virus.
According to WHO, the recommendations are based on the latest clinical trial data and epidemiological evidence. The organization emphasized the importance of using approved therapeutics and vaccines, including the rVSV-ZEBOV vaccine, which has shown high efficacy in previous outbreaks.
The outbreak, which began in North Kivu province, has resulted in dozens of confirmed cases and deaths. WHO continues to coordinate with DRC health officials and international partners to deploy medical countermeasures and strengthen surveillance.
Health workers in affected areas are receiving training on proper use of treatments and vaccine administration. WHO also called for increased funding to support the response and prevent the outbreak from spreading to neighboring countries.
