Blood donation nonprofit Vitalant has announced a sweepstakes offering donors a chance to win a $10,000 gift card. The promotion is part of an effort to boost donations during a persistent national blood shortage.
From April 7 through May 19, 2026, every individual who donates blood, platelets, or plasma at a Vitalant center will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of two $10,000 prepaid gift cards. The winners will be announced in early June.
Vitalant, which supplies blood to about 900 hospitals nationwide, has reported that blood inventories are at critically low levels. The organization emphasizes that all blood types are needed, but there is a particular urgency for type O blood donors.
"We're hoping this sweepstakes inspires both first-time and loyal donors to make an appointment," said a Vitalant representative. The need for donations is constant, as blood products have a limited shelf life.
