Visa, the global payments network, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Moroccan Smart Payment Systems Association (SWAM) to bolster the security of digital payments in Morocco. The collaboration, announced in early 2026, aims to implement advanced security standards and share expertise to protect against fraud in the rapidly growing digital economy.
The partnership will focus on enhancing the security infrastructure for card-not-present (CNP) transactions, which are particularly vulnerable to fraud. This initiative is a key part of Morocco's broader national strategy to promote financial inclusion and digital transformation, as the country seeks to modernize its payment ecosystem.
By working with SWAM, which represents major Moroccan banks and financial institutions, Visa intends to deploy its global security technologies and best practices locally. This includes tools for tokenization, real-time fraud monitoring, and educating consumers and merchants on secure payment practices.
Industry analysts view this alliance as a critical step for Morocco's economic development, aligning with regional trends in North Africa where digital payment adoption is accelerating.
