A VAT officer was killed in Cumilla on April 26, 2026, after being thrown from a moving CNG auto-rickshaw, according to local police. The incident occurred in the Adarsha Sadar upazila area. Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder.
The victim, identified as Md. Shahidul Islam, was an assistant commissioner of VAT at the Cumilla Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate. He was returning home when the suspects, traveling in the same auto-rickshaw, allegedly pushed him out, causing fatal injuries.
Police said the motive appears to be related to a personal dispute, though investigations are ongoing. The arrested suspects are being questioned to determine the exact circumstances leading to the attack.
