Vanderbilt University's baseball team will not be selected for the 2026 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament, ending a streak of 18 consecutive appearances dating back to 2005. The Commodores, who have been a perennial powerhouse under head coach Tim Corbin, failed to secure an at-large bid after a disappointing season.
Vanderbilt finished the regular season with a 33-24 record and a 14-16 mark in Southeastern Conference play, placing 10th in the league standings. The Commodores were eliminated in the first round of the SEC Tournament, losing to Tennessee 7-4 on May 22, 2026. Their RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) of 48 was not strong enough to earn a bid.
The last time Vanderbilt missed the NCAA Tournament was in 2005, before Corbin's first College World Series appearance in 2007. Since then, the program has won two national championships (2014, 2019) and made five College World Series trips. The 2026 season marks the first time since 2005 that the Commodores will not play in the postseason.
Coach Tim Corbin acknowledged the disappointment, stating, 'We didn't do enough to earn a spot. It's a tough pill to swallow, but we'll use this as motivation.' The team will now focus on the 2027 season, with several key players expected to return.
