Telangana's Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday accused BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) of spreading 'blatant lies' regarding paddy procurement in the state. Reddy presented official figures to counter KTR's claims that the Congress government had failed farmers.
According to data from the Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation, as of May 2026, the government has procured over 45 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from the current Rabi season, surpassing last year's figures. Reddy stated that payments worth ₹8,200 crore have been directly transferred to farmers' accounts.
KTR had earlier alleged that procurement centers were closed and farmers were forced to sell at lower prices. However, Reddy clarified that 4,500 procurement centers are operational across the state, with no reports of farmers being turned away. He challenged KTR to provide evidence for his claims.
The minister also highlighted that the Congress government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy by ₹100 per quintal compared to the previous BRS regime. Reddy urged KTR to stop misleading farmers and instead focus on constructive criticism.
