The United States and the Kingdom of Morocco have signed a new ten-year Defense Cooperation Roadmap, formalizing their strategic partnership for the period from 2026 to 2036. The agreement was signed by U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Moroccan Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in Charge of National Defense Administration Abdellatif Loudiyi in Washington, D.C.
The roadmap aims to deepen bilateral military cooperation across several key areas, including joint military exercises, training programs, and defense institutional capacity building. It builds upon the longstanding security partnership between the two nations, which includes Morocco's status as a major non-NATO ally.
Officials from both countries stated that the agreement is designed to enhance regional security and stability in North Africa. The partnership also focuses on counterterrorism efforts and promoting a rules-based international order.
The signing follows a series of high-level meetings and comes as both nations seek to address shared security challenges. The framework is expected to guide joint planning and interoperability between U.S. and Moroccan forces for the next decade.
